Pixel Perfect Overlay — Privacy Policy
Extension: Pixel Perfect Overlay (Chrome) · Last updated: September 17, 2026
Pixel Perfect Overlay stores everything on your own device. It has no servers, makes no network requests of any kind, and contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising code. Nothing you do with it is transmitted anywhere.
1. What We Collect
Nothing is collected, in the sense that nothing leaves your computer. For full transparency, here is everything the extension writes to your browser's local storage:
| Data | Where it is stored | Why | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design images you add | chrome.storage.local | So your overlay is still there when you come back to the page | No |
| Layer settings — position, opacity, scale, blend mode, lock and visibility | chrome.storage.local | To restore each layer exactly where you left it | No |
The address of pages you added a layer to (origin and path, e.g. https://example.com/pricing) | chrome.storage.local | Used as the key that matches a saved layer back to its page. This is not browsing history — only pages where you explicitly added a layer are recorded, and only locally | No |
| Your preferences — default opacity, nudge distance, scale mode | chrome.storage.local | Remember how you like to work | No |
| Sites you allowed to restore overlays automatically | chrome.storage.local | To know which sites you granted permission to | No |
| A counter of how many layers you have added | chrome.storage.local | So the extension asks you for a store rating once, and never again | No |
The extension never reads, copies, or transmits the content of the pages you visit. It draws your image on top of the page; it does not look at what is underneath.
2. Permissions and Why We Need Them
activeTab— grants temporary access to the page you are on, and only at the moment you click the extension icon or press its keyboard shortcut. This is what lets the overlay appear. The access expires on its own, and the extension has no access to any page you have not deliberately activated it on.scripting— used to place the overlay into the page when you activate it, and to register the overlay on the specific sites you asked to restore automatically.storage— saves your layers, images, and preferences locally, as listed above.unlimitedStorage— a full-page design export at 2× resolution can be several megabytes. The default 10 MB storage cap is not enough for a handful of them, and this permission lifts it. It grants no access to anything new.- Optional site access — requested only if you turn on "Remember on reload" for a particular site, and only for that one site. Chrome asks you before granting it, and you can revoke it at any time from the extension's Options page or from Chrome's settings. The extension requests no site access when you install it.
3. Third-Party Services
None. Pixel Perfect Overlay does not use analytics, crash reporting, tracking, advertising, or any third-party service. It makes no network requests, so there is no endpoint for your data to reach even by accident.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
All data lives in your browser's local storage. Uninstalling the extension removes it permanently. You can also delete it at any time from the extension's Options page, either one page at a time or all at once.
5. Children's Privacy
Pixel Perfect Overlay is a developer tool. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
6. Changes to This Policy
If a future version changes what the extension stores or adds any network request, this page will be updated with a new date before that version ships, and the change will be called out in the release notes.
