Mac storage full
5 tested guides, grouped by what is actually going on. Covers: System Data, Downloads, caches, duplicates, iCloud.
Short answer
- Open System Settings › General › Storage to see which category is using the most space.
- On most Macs the fastest space comes back from the Downloads folder: old .dmg installers, duplicate downloads and big videos.
- A huge System Data bar is usually caches, developer files, iPhone backups or Time Machine local snapshots, and each has a safe way to shrink it.
- Delete only your own files and folders inside your home folder; never delete anything inside /System.
